This should be the easiest thing to do after all it just represents who you are. The website could reflect your personal interest in a subject or products that you sell or recommend with 150% confidence.  Your unique voice for many opens up the Pandora’s Box of self – who am I?

Some might say that I am taking the moral high ground after all it is just a website, right? It may be the type of moral landscape that you choose not to engage in.  For me, it is about conscious choices – your choices and my choices rather than anyone being right or wrong.

There is a frenzy on Twitter to get more followers.  They were cascading into my tweets a couple of days ago.  At first, I felt excited then I looked at who these followers were and what their sites represented.  Something in my gut started reacting and I begun unfollowing many.  Every so often I discovered an interesting follower with whom I agreed or whose perspective challenged me – these were keepers.  The process even led me to some dark places that I discovered that I didn’t mind going to. This is part of the journey in developing your website too and making personal choices.

It is near to impossible to escape marketing language that surrounds our daily lives or to avoid  using this language on our websites.  Just being aware of this provides us with space to consider and determine if this is the way we want to be presented.

When you begin building your website ask ‘Does this represent what I stand for?
